Jean Larson’s
botanical images are much more than beautifully painted flowers. They transcend
strict reality and delve into the relationship of color and light. Larson feels
that people have a visceral, and often very powerful, response to color. Her
work is testament to this and leads the viewer through the imagery, deep into
the surface of the painting. Strongly influenced by the environment of Southern
France, where she now lives and works, Larson expresses hope that her paintings
be experienced rather than explained. Flowers are a key element to her work
largely due to the profound metaphors they bring out of life. - “A flower opens
to the light, boldly displays its colors to the world, and then withers away.
These are the stages of life I witness and experience, each with its own beauty
and wisdom. I have learned much from flowers."- Jean Larson.
and through her paper
works her paintings are more intuitive.
