Whether it’s a mime strolling poetically across a bed of ten penny nails or the bust of a man resplendent with horns and a mask, Don Charles has a unique way of melding common, and sometimes not so common objects into visual treasures that captivate and enchant the viewer.  Using characters conceived of his singular artistic vision and drawing upon the rich influence of indigenous folk art, his whimsical, sometimes slightly macabre creations are always brilliant in their interpretation.  Taking advantage of his innate ability to find the beauty in everyday items, Charles uses everything from old soda cans to bits of leather, found cedar and discarded tractor parts found on a farm to weave images in his minds eye into stunning works of sculptural art.  But at heart, it’s his wry, almost quirky sense of humor and his gift for rendering it into three dimensions that makes the work of Don Charles forever magical.
