Lotus #21

mixed media and metal leaf on aluminum, 36"x36", sold |
 |

Evident by his unique mixed media surfaces, Tom Anderson is more
captivated with his process than with the final outcome.
Anderson works with aluminum, copper and sometimes steel or brass, but rather
than struggle with this difficult media, he appreciates the unpredictable nature
of his materials. He intentionally lets his intuition guide his decisions as he
works with various chemical formulas and patinas on the metal. After creating
beautifully resonant and atmospheric surfaces, he often adds shapes and colors
using gold leaf, varnishes, or graphite. These components are spontaneously
conceived while he actively witnesses the nature of the materials responding to
each other and creating relationships.
“All the elements combined, physically as well as
metaphorically, are among the tools I use to continually re-invent and express
the dynamics of my own life, as well as to hopefully reflect to the viewer the
dynamics and emotion of their own spirit.”- Thomas L. Anderson
